The Iowa Food Bank Association (IFBA) is a collaborative organization consisting of the six food banks serving neighbors facing food insecurity in Iowa. The mission of the IFBA, with the food banks, empower, collaborate and unite to ensure all communities have access to food.
We are seeking the next strategic leader to serve as the Executive Director of the Association. The primary responsibility of the Executive Director is to ensure progress toward organizational goals and objectives and ensure that we follow the policies and procedures as defined by the IFBA Board of Directors. These goals and objectives usually fall into three priority areas such as advocacy for those facing food insecurity, building partnerships and working with statewide groups and other state associations, as well a leveraging best practices among IFBA members.

Position Overview:
The primary responsibility of the Executive Director is to ensure progress toward organizational goals and objectives and ensure that we follow the policies and procedures as defined by the IFBA Board of Directors. These goals and objectives fall into three priority areas:
- Leads advocacy efforts
- Builds partnerships and works with statewide groups and other state associations
- Leverage best practices among IFBA members
Duties include:
- Work with the IFBA Board of Directors to develop goals, objectives and the annual work plan
- Develop and implement the IFBA Advocacy Platform by providing leadership with State, Federal and other legislative matters affecting food banks.
- Utilize resources, including paid lobbyist, food bank networks and other state partners.
- Be the leading voice on hunger in the state, with a non-partisan approach, while providing leadership in dealing with governmental and legislative issues affecting food banks. Ensure Food Banks and our neighbors facing food insecurity have a voice with elected officials.
- Work to develop statewide partnerships that includes food resources, volunteers and donations.
- Oversee the IFBA SNAP program. This includes the partnership with Food Bank for the Heartland and IHHS. Responsible for ensuring adequate resources and contract requirements are fulfilled by the contracting organizations.
- Identify, solicit, and apply for public and private funding to support the work of IFBA and its member food banks
- Maintain public awareness of the problem of hunger in Iowa and the immediate needs of food banks in the state. Pursue opportunities to educate residents of the state, through media outreach, speaking events and educational webinars.
- Collaborate, as appropriate, with other nonprofit organizations in the state to ensure our neighbors facing food insecurity have a voice.
- Financial Acumen - In coordination with the board, accountant/bookkeeper, and anyone contracted to provide such assistance, oversees the development of budgets maintains fiscal records and accountability of the corporation, including bank statements, grant administration, bookkeeping, payroll, audits, and tax records.
- Maintain active membership in organizations beneficial to the mission of the IFBA and the food banks serving Iowa, including Feeding America and Iowa Disaster Resource Council (IDHRC}.
- In cooperation with membership, develop statewide hunger message including statistics, data, and impact of food banks.
- In cooperation with the Iowa Food Bank Association Board Chair, coordinate details and prepare material for board meetings.
- Work with Iowa Food Bank Association Function Teams to encourage collaboration among food banks. Coordinate teams/staffing groups (operations, finance, agencies, etc.) and develop a leadership structure for them to meet on a regular basis.
- Develop relationships, attend meetings and partner with State Association CEOs/Executive Directors in the Feeding America network.
- Travel, as appropriate, to national and state meetings to learn, share best practices and be a voice for the association and for our neighbors facing food insecurity.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree and experience in business/finance, social services or related field.
- Nonprofit and public policy background preferred.
- Ability to plan, organize, and facilitate multiple collaborations and activities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of groups and public officials.
- Solicitation programs.
- Ability to work independently and be a self-starter.
Ability and willingness to travel and to work evenings and weekends occasionally as needed.
Computer skills, including a vast knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
