The ideal Facilities Maintenance Technician for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank understands and is passionate about the organization’s mission to provide nutritious food and grocery products to nonprofit organizations and individuals in northeast Iowa. This individual ensures that our warehouse and grounds are maintained to the highest standards through comprehensive cleaning schedules and proactive facility maintenance. This individual also ensures a safe, comfortable, and functional environment by responding to work orders, performing preventative maintenance, and addressing urgent facility needs. Beyond upkeep, this role supports NEIFB’s core mission by assisting with warehouse logistics, performing minor repairs, and collaborating with staff and volunteers.

The responsibilities of the Facilities Maintenance Technician include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Perform daily housekeeping tasks in the warehouse and facility grounds ensuring AIB/food safety standards are met.
· Identifies, troubleshoots, and reports the need for repairs to the facility and its systems. Under direction, perform minor repairs to the facility and keep accurate records of repairs completed. Minor repairs include but are not limited to caulking, painting, assembling shelving and riding scissor lifts to ceiling of warehouse.
· Perform weekly, monthly, and quarterly tasks on the master cleaning schedule for the warehouse and facility grounds to ensure compliance with AIB/food safety standards.
· Report, troubleshoot, and eliminate any safety hazards in the warehouse and on facility grounds. Document and report all safety hazards to their supervisor.
· Ability to assist with major repairs and jobs as requested.
· Assist with warehouse operations including accurate and efficient order picking, accurate inventory counts, clean/sort room functions, and local deliveries and pick-ups.
· Maintain accurate records, both on paper and within maintenance software, of work performed, daily completion of the Master Cleaning Schedule, and inspection reports.
· Work with volunteers to ensure work objectives are achieved, and volunteers have positive experiences.
· Provide coverage in other areas of the Food Bank as necessary in times of high need, special events, and seasonal needs
Required:
· Ability to perform basic mathematical functions.
· Ability to safely operate Pallet Jacks, Forklifts, Scissor lift and additional warehouse equipment and tools.
· Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 lbs., climb ladders, and remain on your feet for extended periods in varying warehouse temperatures.
· Working knowledge of plumbing, electricity, and mechanical equipment.
· Ability to work in extreme environments of a warehouse with freezer and refrigeration units
· Ability to work independently and with staff to achieve objectives
· Ability to work with diverse populations including individuals of various educational ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds
· Ability to work nights and weekends as required
· Excellent interpersonal problem-solving communication and customer service skills
· Valid Iowa Driver’s License and safe driving record
· Ability to work, learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
Preferred:
· Forklift certification
· Familiarity with cloud-based maintenance ticket software.
· Familiarity with AIB International and other food safety regulations.
· Two years of experience in warehouse maintenance, janitorial services, or food service operations
