Contract Timeframe:  Immediately – end of August 2023 (potential of renewing contract after Aug)

The ideal Grant Writer for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank understands and is passionate about the organization’s mission to provide nutritious food and grocery product to those in need in our 16-county service area. This individual will be a vital component of the Food Bank’s vision to provide access to those in northeast Iowa who are food insecure with Every Meal. Every Day. With this position, this team member must demonstrate outstanding organizational, planning, implementation skills, critically think and understand the vision and big picture thinking in order to provide effective and efficient ways to communicate to potential funders.

This individual will have exceptionally articulate writing, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills, which will be critical for the development of strong grant proposals. Cultural competency is of utmost importance, as the Grant Writer will need to communicate about diverse populations on a regular basis. The Grant Writer must possess a strong sense of initiative to continually improve the Food Bank’s grant performance.

About The Job

Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
Research, develop and submit proposals for grants to meet the Food Bank’s mission and goals, including, but not limited to, private foundations, corporations, government sources and the United Way. 
Write concise, articulate and persuasive grant proposals and narratives.  Approximately 18 grants.
Ensure that grant fiscal management meets current and changing organizational needs. 
Collect, verify and interpret relevant data and statistics.
Work with Accounting/Finance Department to develop grant budgets and budget narratives.
Monitor grant-funded programs and projects and submit timely reports on use of funding.  Approximately 12 reports.
Maintain a grant-tracking and report-management system.
Compile and disseminate information for internal reports.
Hold bi-weekly meetings with Grant team to go over all upcoming grants and reports.
Works closely with all departments to ensure compliance with grant administration requirements. 

Requirements

Required:
Bachelor’s Degree or 5 years experience related to sales, writing or communications; combination of education and experience taken into consideration
Exceptional oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
Proficiency in MS Office software
Culturally competent
Must pass a criminal background check
